1,000 bears roam the endless forests and rugged bogs of Estonia. Most of the bears live in Alutaguse, in the east of the country, between Lake Peipus and Lahemaa National Park. Here, deep in the woods, we have built two quite comfortable observation hides..

The unique design of the houses offers views on two sides, overlooking two very different and charming landscapes: From the northern cabin windows, one can see into a dense taiga forest of birch and spruce. Here, bears and raccoon dogs can be spotted at close range. Various bird species, such as the grey-headed woodpecker and the northern nuthatch, visit feeding stations built specifically for them.

From the south-facing windows, one looks out onto a completely open landscape with a wide stream, meadows, and willow thickets. Sometimes moose or beavers appear, swimming by just a few meters away. The imposing golden eagle often makes an appearance from the nearby raised bog, or a Ural owl perches in the twilight on a birch tree behind the stream. Rare visitors include wolves, lynxes, and otters.

The cabins are simple but comfortable, clean, and cosy. There are separate cabins with bunk beds and a dry toilet. Special photo hatches have been installed for photographers.

Note: The two cabins are a 90-minute drive from Tallinn, Estonia’s capital, and each can accommodate a maximum of 9 people. Check-in is from 5:00 PM in spring or 4:00 PM in autumn until 8:00 AM.
